              What's to be expected

              • In the beginning it can bleed a little, local swelling, tenderness and small bruises
              • During healingsprocess a bit of discoloration can happen, itching, transparant/yellowish flouid can accumulate some scabs around the jewelry. The tissue can feel a bit tight around the piercing when healing.
              • When the piercing is healed it should be possible to move the jewelry freely through the pierced skin. It should not be nessesary to pull of force the movement of the jewelry.
              • If the cleaning isn't a part of your daily routine, the piercing can start to smell due to the accumulation of flouids your body excrete.
              • The piercing can sometimes feel healed before the healingsprocess is ended. This is caused because the tissue is healing from the outside and in, which means that it can look and feel completely healed, but still be very fragile inside.
              • Healed piercings can shrink or close itself in a few minutes even years after it is done. This variates from people to person. If you are content with your piercing, let the jewelry stay in and don't take the jewelry out over longer peiods of time.

Especially for piercings in and around the mouth

                • Use the t-shirt trick to wrap your pillow in a clean t-shirt and turn it daily, thus one t-shirt will last for four nights.
                • Keep headphones, glasses, telephones, helmets, hats etc., that touches the piercing and the area around, clean.
                • Sleep with your head elevated to reduce overnight swelling.
                • For piercings in and around the mouth a jewelry change to a shorter piece of jewelry during the healing period is often necessary, to avoid excessive irritation and tooth damage. Because this jewelry change has to happen while the piercing is still healing it is recommended to visit your piercer for this.
                • Please ensure that the jewelry is always tightened properly. For internally threaded jewelry this means checking that the top is always screwed in properly. For threadless jewelry make sure there is no gap between the jewelry post and the top.

                  Do

                  • Wash your hands before you touch the piercing.
                  • During the healingsprocess your shouldn't rotate/twist the piercing.
                  • Try to optain a healthy lifestyle. The healthier you live, the easier it is for your body to heal. Get lots of sleep and eat healthy. Exercising while healing is okay.
                  • Make sure that your bed linen is washed and changed regularly.
                  • Remember to tighten your ball(s)/end(s) by turning right.

                  Don't

                  • Don't play with your piercing!
                  • Don't clean your piercing too often, because it will slow the healingprocess and cause irritation.
                  • Have patience! Don't change your jewelry before your piercing is fully healed.
                  • Don't use products containing alcohol, chlorhexidine or hydrogen peroxide. This will damage the cells.
                  • Don't use jewelry with pendants or similar in your piercing before it is fully healed.
                  • Avoid public swimming pools or bathing in seawater for 3 - 4 weeks.
                  • Avoid sunbathing the first 4 - 6 weeks.
